Color swatch comparison

There are two fabrics currently being widely used to make flight suits. One is Jo Ann Fabrics 7oz. stretch denim in orange. This may be a seasonally available material and is currently out of stock in most stores.

The other is Richloom Solar Cherry, available from Jo Ann Fabrics (very expensive without coupons), Amazon.comFabric.com, and OnlineFabricStore.

There may be other options that rely on more dyeing, but these are the closest on the rack.

Here’s a color comparison between a Pantone swatch (you can order them here)  that matches a weathered, screen used costume:

The fabric samples were scanned in using my flatbed scanner. They have not been washed. Both are a little more on the red end of the spectrum, but keep in mind the Pantone color is for a weathered suit. The Pantone swatch is also for color reference only, not fabric weave.

For another point of comparison, here are the same swatches compared to Coats & Clark Dual Duty thread in Paprika (#7840) and Coats & Clark Dual Duty thread in Tomato (#2500). This is one of the most common thread brands and is likely to be found at any American fabric or craft store.
